We recommend shopping for your wedding dress soon after you choose your wedding date and venue. Dresses typically take 6-9 months to arrive, and alterations generally start 8 weeks before your wedding (or 6 weeks before the event for evening wear, including MOB’s and MOG’s!) To give yourself a stress-free experience and to avoid rush fees, it's great to start shopping between 9-12 months before your wedding. 

 

If you have less than 6 months before your big day, we still have lots of options that can be ready in time for your wedding. Rush fees and availability depend on the designer. We also have a frequently-changing selection of sample gowns that can be purchased off the rack, which are great for short time-frame brides!

We offer an incredible and high-quality selection of dresses, priced from around $2,500 to $15,000+ with the majority between $3,000-$7,000. 

 

When you come in for your appointment, your bridal consultant will help you choose dresses in a price range that you're comfortable with. We never push you to spend more than you want, and we treat every bride with the same pampering service regardless of budget.

You’ll want to bring guests who understand your true style, give supportive feedback, and will help you look your best. Hearing too many opinions can be overwhelming for even the most confident of brides, so keep the guest list short and sweet! 

 

COVID 2021 update: 

Our individual viewing areas make it easy to social distance! No more than 2 guests will be allowed in the store with each bride for the appointment. For alteration appointments, only 1 guest please. 



 

Our store is thoroughly cleaned hourly. Any dresses tried on/shown will be properly cleaned & disinfected before returning to the floor. All employees & customers are required to wear face coverings. 



Your appointment is the perfect time to tell all your wedding day hopes and dreams to your bridal consultant. We see you for about 90 minutes and we want to know *all* the details! 

 

During the first few minutes of your appointment, your consultant will ask a variety of questions so that we can make sure to pull the best options for you - after all, our goal is to find you YOUR perfect dress. Our consultants are our inventory experts, so the more you share, the better. Bringing in photos or pulling up your Pinterest board is totally encouraged! 

 

Your consultant will start by pulling a few dresses that match the best description of what you are looking for and then the countdown to finding your dress begins.

Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime bridal shopping experience, as we open our store exclusively to you (the bride!) and 7 guests for a one-on-one memory making event. 

 

You and your guests will be treated to bubbles & bites to further enhance your dressing shopping experience. The store and one of our incredible consultants are yours (& only yours!) for three hours. 

 

With the limited restrictions due to covid (currently 2 guests + bride as of January 2021), this is a wonderful opportunity to bring more of your nearest & dearest.

Our sample sizes range in size from bridal 8 to 12. We also carry plus sizes which range from bridal 16 to 22.

 

If the sample gown is too small or too large, we clip the dress to fit your body. Please keep in mind that bridal sizing is different than ready to wear sizing.

Accessories are the icing on the cake! Our consultants are very experienced at pulling together your whole look during your bridal appointment. Often, seeing the whole ensemble together helps the bride say “yes, this is my dress!” Of course, you’re always welcomed back if you need more time to make your final decision. 

 

Keep in mind, some accessories are special order, and while they don’t usually take as much time as a wedding dress, it can be several weeks.

We have a selection of “Off The Rack” dresses that offer brides-to-be a chance to buy a designer dress at a fraction of the retail cost. These sample dresses have been tried on in-store. While there may be some minor marks or damage to the gowns, we do take as much care as possible with our samples, so most will be in fantastic condition!

 

Instead of hosting sample sale events multiple times a year, we created our Off The Rack selection to allow brides-to-be to shop for their dream dress for less all year round!

Trunk shows are events that we frequently host throughout the year where we highlight a particular designer and their most recent collection. Trunk shows are a great opportunity to see and try on much more of a designer’s collection than what we normally have in the salon. 

 

Exclusive discounts are often offered during trunk shows. Plus, the designers and their expert stylists often attend trunk shows, which makes for an unforgettable experience as you find your wedding dress! See all of our upcoming events here

The most commonly asked question in the salon has nothing to do with wedding gowns, designers or evening wear. In fact, it has nothing to do with weddings at all.

 

The Plumed Serpent was established in Westport in 1970. Originally the shop was a Mexican antique shop that imported furniture and accessories for the local clientele. The Plumed Serpent or Quetzalcoatl is an Aztec god related to the gods of wind – a cool name for a shop dealing with Mexican imports! Through the years, what the store carried changed but the name remained!
